The KK Story: Two Boys, One Bowl of Murukku, and a Very Loud Crunch

Some ideas begin with a business plan. Ours began on a gaming station in Bangalore, 2016, with a bowl of homemade snacks and a lot of screaming.

Some ideas begin with a business plan. Some begin with a gap in the market. And then there's one that begins with two boys on a gaming station, a lot of screaming, and a bowl of homemade snacks. Katam Kutum belongs firmly to the last category.

It all started in Bangalore in 2016 — back when traffic wasn't even in your top five problems. Amruth and Saurav were busy raging at their gaming stations, screaming loud and laughing even louder. Until Mom walked in with a bowl of homemade fried snacks. Back home they were called murukku. At Katam Kutum HQ they'd become known as murcons.

The boys took a bite. And, according to both founders, they were instantly transported to flavourland. That crunch was only the beginning.

Snacks have a funny way of becoming more than snacks

They become the thing sitting in the middle of a family conversation. The bowl passed around during tea time. The crunch accompanying childhood stories. The reason someone reaches for 'just one more' and somehow finishes half the bowl. That feeling is at the heart of Katam Kutum.

Even the name carries that spirit — Katam Kutum is the animated sound your brain makes when you bite into something ridiculously crunchy.

The people behind the packet

Behind every packet are the people who make and package the murukku — the backbone of the whole operation. The ones who turn an idea into something you can actually hold, open, share, and crunch.

So whether you call it murukku, murcon, or simply that crunchy thing you can't stop eating — there's a little bit of childhood in every bite. Now in flavourful editions.
